Introduction

It is not among our projects nor is it one of our skills to make here a detailed synthesis about spirituality in Islam with all its richness and largest complexity. Our deepest motivation, however, lies in the fact of trying to listen to and understand what makes the place of the spiritual so special in the Muslim countries.

That’s why we need to understand the different steps that have influenced the thought in the Islamic world, from Revelation through the dissensions and cleavages of yesterday and today.
